Go Set a Watchman is the second novel and sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Go Set a Watchman takes place almost two decades after To Kill a Mockingbird and follows Jean Louise (Scout) as she comes back to Maycomb, Alabama from New York City for a two week visit to see her family and best friend-turned loved interest.

Go Set a Watchman

A review of Go Set a Watchman on Splendry

During her stay in Maycomb she encounters new racial tensions that rock her to her core. Unsure with how to react to these findings she lashes out at the ones she loves most until Uncle Jack is able to help her come to terms with what she has witnessed and helped her mature through these experiences. I was once again blown away with how well Harper Lee can write such a beautiful coming of age tale in the South. Go Set a Watchman will make you laugh, with Jean Louis flashbacks as a child, but will make you think about how you would deal with those same racial and political issues if you had to face them. I couldn’t put it down and would highly recommend this read.
