Having a place for everything and making the most of your space are just two tips to keep in mind when organizing your home. Below, I have five simple ways to help keep your space neat and tidy! Here are some ways to get organized at home.
How to Get Organized at Home
1. Be Proactive
The first step is to stay on top of everything, at all times. When the mail arrives, recycle junk and put bills next to your computer or checkbook, so you’ll remember to pay them. After you go shopping, immediately put away all your purchases. When you arrive home at the end of the day, don’t throw your shoes by the door and your bag on the table. Keep everything clean and tidy!
2. A Place For Everything & Everything In Its Place
This little saying is great to keep in mind when it comes to home organization. Our houses are made up of different rooms that may be shared by different people, so there needs to be a method to the madness. Have a landing station right inside your door, in order to store shoes, keys and other items you grab while running out. Use different sizes and styles of storage containers in order to keep bathroom products, cleaning supplies and hygiene products nice and tidy. A place for everything, and everything in its place!
3. Dedicate A Day
If cleaning and picking up overwhelms you, dedicate one day of the week to getting it all done. Maybe you’re home on Friday mornings and can straighten up everything then. Perhaps your whole family is together on Sunday evenings, in order to be able to get the place looking orderly. Dedicating a specific day to these tasks will definitely help.
4. Make Use Of Every Space
If you think there is not room for everything in your place or enough space to hold all your junk, think again! There are over-the-door storage solutions, boxes made to slide under beds, racks that connect to the ceiling to hold items and even pieces of furniture that double as storage. (And if you’re working on a clothes closet, head here!)
5. Get Creative
A final tip to keep in mind when getting organized is creativity. We all have that one closet and that one drawer that hold random odds and ends and that should not be opened. But for your out-in-the-open spaces, organize by color, shape or size. Organize by throwing in your favorite color or by using unique boxes that your kids helped you create. Organize in a way that leads to a happy home and a happy you!
