Laundry Day probably isn’t your favorite day of the week (though if you’ve truly found a way to get it down to one day a week, let me know), but it’s kind of necessary if you want clean clothes. I know, it’s rough.

These laundry tips will help you spend less time in the laundry room and more time doing something fun!

Laundry Tips

laundry tips 1

Stash a stain removing pen or wipe in your purse or glove box to deal with spills, makeup smudges and other stains as they occur. Stains are much easier to remove the faster you get to them!

laundry tips 2

Speed up the sorting process by using a divided hamper. Now you don’t have to pull everything out of the hamper to find similar items to wash!

laundry tips 3

Having once washed my husband’s inhaler, I learned this lesson the hard way! (Curse you, cargo pockets!) Pens and gum* in particular can wreak havoc on a load of laundry! Keeping a small bowl or tray near the washing machine might act as a reminder to do a double (or triple!) check!

*If you do manage to get gum stuck to your clothes, boil vinegar and pour it over the gum. Use a brush to wipe it off! If ink is your culprit, apply some toothpaste, let it dry and then wash.

laundry tips 4

We’re all tempted to fill the washing machine to the brim, but stuffing the machine too full can prevent clothes from getting clean. Leave a nice gap between the drum and the laundry and make sure you follow the recommended detergent dosage.

laundry tips 5

Save your sanity by washing socks all together in a mesh bag that you can also throw into the dryer.

laundry tips 6

Don’t over-pack the dryer either! It should be half full on permanent press and 3/4 full for normal loads. If you’ve got lots to dry consider separating wet clothing into slow-drying items (jeans) and quick-drying items like t-shirts. Make sure to untangle pieces before placing into the dryer.

In a rush to dry your clothes? Throw a dry towel into the dryer along with your wet items. They’ll dry much faster!

Have a laundry tip to share? I’d love to hear it!
