If you’re a big reader, what’s your preference- one book at a time, or more? While I love reading, it’s not unusual for it to take me a little bit to get through a book since I usually have at least three going at a time! Vacations though, I can usually get through quite a few books pretty quick! A few reviews from my last vacation that might be great for your own list of books for the beach:
Books for the Beach
1. Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
One of the quirkiest reads I’ve experienced lately, Semple tells the story of a missing mother, a worried daughter, and an unusual journey. That sounds way more serious than the story actually is, though there is definitely some intrigue and a few tugs on the heartstrings. I heard really positive reviews on this book and liked it enough. You may absolutely love it though! It’s definitely a good vacation read!
2. Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight
After my friends passed this book around, I finally got a hold of it! McCreight tells the story of a mother picking up the pieces after finding out her teenage daughter jumped to her death in the midst of a cheating scandal at her school. She delves into her daughter’s life – her emails, text messages, etc., as she tries to make sense of it all.
This was a pretty quick read and definitely has some suspense and intrigue. This was recommended as a “If you liked Gone Girl…”, but Gone Girl is definitely more suspenseful and, well, good, in my opinion. I heard that this book was picked up for a movie, so you may want to read it before that happens!
3. #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso
The winner of my vacation reads for sure, #GIRLBOSS is all kinds of motivating and inspiring, especially if you’re a female business owner (or want to be). Amoruso tells her story of the path to success and the many mistakes she made along the way, as well as what she learned as she grew a company (Nasty Gal) into a multi million dollar business while never acquiring any debt. An impressive feat for sure! If you’re embarking on a new career or just need a little inspiration, this is for you. (It might also be a great gift for that recent college grad you know!)
