So I don’t know why but I busted out the Christmas music super early this year. It’s almost like the world is stressful or something? Anyways I’m glad I did because in addition to listening to some of my past favorites there are some great new holiday releases this year! All the albums listed below are also currently streaming on Spotify so you can check them out before you purchase.
Simply Christmas by Leslie Odom Jr.
The Tony award-winning star of Hamilton has released a beautiful Jazz filled holiday CD to save all our lives this year. Quite simply, he is one of my favorite vocalists living on the planet. If you only get one new Christmas album this year make sure it’s this one.
Favorite song: The beautiful cover of Ingrid Michaelson’s Winter Song
A Very Kacey Christmas by Kacey Musgraves
Country singer Kacey Musgraves serves up a delightfully retro album full of charming standards and original holiday songs. This album makes me happy every time I play it in the car and it is my kids #1 favorite.
Favorite song: Ribbons and Bows (an original that feels like a classic) and Mele Kalikimaka
Christmas Party by She & Him
Hipster Christmas the sequel! Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward’s second Christmas album is full of laid back and stripped down standards that are perfect for the background of your holiday party. There’s nothing groundbreaking on this album but it’s a nice one to have in the mix.
A Pentatonix Christmas by Pentatonix
Pentatonix continues to dominate the Christmas music airwaves with the release of their second Christmas album. While I didn’t quite enjoy this one as much as the first it’s still full of amazing harmonies and uplifting cheer.
Favorite Song: Not exactly a Christmas song but I really enjoyed their cover of Hallelujah

A Johnnyswim Christmas by Johnnyswim
This is not a new release but this husband and wife duo has blown up this year and it’s a great time to go back and listen to their soulful collection of Christmas standards. If you haven’t given Johnnyswim a chance check this out and then give their new album Georgica Pond a listen. You won’t regret it.
