Last fall, the leader in the podcast establishment, This American Life, launched a new podcast- Serial. It took the world by storm.
Rather than telling individual stories in each episodes, Serial focused on one story, told over 12 episodes. This story was of a 15 year old murder of a high school girl. The killer was found and convicted, and is serving a life sentence in prison. However, Serial goes back into the evidence and reanalyzes the case.
For the months it was on, Serial was a frequent topic of conversation even among my friends who did not listen to podcasts. Suddenly they waited with anticipation every Thursday morning for the new episode.
Sarah Koenig’s compelling story telling style, her own personal involvement, the controversial subject matter, and evolving story without a clear resolution make for a great piece of journalism and podcasting.
If you listen, start from Episode 1 and hang on for the ride til the end!
