I love a good DIY party. I really enjoy this creative outlet and getting to try out different ideas. Recently my sister-in-law asked if I would help her with her sister’s baby shower for her sweet little boy coming soon. Yes! The nursery did not really have a theme, but the colors were navy and white. Add in some wood and gold and done! We ended up with a really cool Modern Nature Baby Shower!
Here’s how it turned out:
Modern Nature Baby Shower Details
My SIL had already ordered these cute invites, so continuing with the chevron was an easy choice (I do still love that chevron.) I love how easy it is now to get a cute, personalized invitation. Etsy has some super cute shops for this, and even Amazon. The white frame is from Ikea.
Guests were greeted at the door with a custom chalkboard sign decorated with chalkboard paint pens (thanks to my husband), and one of the DIY paper garlands (from this post) as accent.
Guest Sign In
I found both of the frames on clearance at Pier 1. The brass framed the sweet boy’s ultrasound picture. And the nature frame was a perfect accent to the theme we wanted, and was an easy DIY personalization project (post to come).
The wooden sign is from Hobby Lobby. We liked the saying, and with the wood and gold accents, it went so well with what we wanted.
We used a multi-colored chevron swatch of fabric for the table cover (because we had it) and added a strip of gold sparkle burlap as a vertical runner with some pictures of mom and dad-to-be.
Drink Station – continuing with chalkboards:
Food Table:
We used white tablecloths that we already had for the foundation of the table covering. My SIL had some navy and white chevron fabric that we made into a vertical runner and I trimmed it with the gold sparkle burlap.
I used gold platters that I had already for each of our food items.
I also lucked out having access to all the cut wood from a friend. It was an easy and fun way to add depth and personality, and no cost!
More Decorative Details:
“And Baby Makes three” sign and gold safari animals from Hobby Lobby
Frames from Ikea
These home-made goodies from the hostesses were delicious! Peppered hummus in mini pastry cups, and cucumber rolls.
I definitely wanted to highlight this elegant cake on the cake stand that belonged to the mom-to-be’s grandmother, whom she was very close with.
So, a recap to breakdown our supply list:

I'm tempted to have a baby just so you'll throw me a cute shower...that's probably not the best reason to become a mother, right?
