Winter is always a good reminder of how fickle your skin can be. One minute you’re enjoying the dewiness of fall moisture and the next? Dry, itchy, red, flaky, you name it, it’s happening to your face.
In my other life as a style and beauty blogger I try lots (and lots) of beauty products through subscription boxes, gifts from brands, and just my own purchases made out of curiosity.
Skin care really became important to me once I hit my 30s and naturally I get more interested every year. Here are a few of the skincare and beauty products I’m using (and loving) right now.

Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil
I received a sample of this cleansing oil sometime back and while I loved it, for one reason or another I never repurchased. Until about a month ago.
Now I’m faithfully applying my oil each night to remove my makeup, rinsing off to reveal soft smooth skin that’s defying winter moisture levels.
A full size bottle sells for $48, but you can grab a trial size for $15. (You can also get a smaller size for free when you sign up for Tatcha’s newsletter and make your first order.)
bkr Paris Water Balm
A little tub arrived in one of my more recent subscription boxes (The October Allure Beauty Box, I believe) and I loved it so much, it made the Splendry Beauty Gift Guide this Christmas. It’s one of my favorite lip balms I’ve ever tried, and believe me, I’ve tried a lot.
For $22 it’s one of the pricier lip balms out there, but worth every last cent. (And it will last a long time.)
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water
I’ve been using this for several months now and I’m convinced it helped me tame my post-pregnancy skin when nothing else would help. Not bad for a drugstore cleanser!
I use it now to remove my eye makeup and then give my skin a nice once over after I’ve used the Tatcha oil cleanser in the evenings. I also give my face another swipe in the mornings to remove any overnight buildup.
Pixi skintreats Glow Tonic
The people at Pixie have been sending me all kinds of products to try lately and one of the ones I was most curious about (and that I’ve heard the most about) was the Pixie Glow Tonic.
It’s got somewhat of a cult following and after using it for a month or so I have to say I’m a fan. I’ve been using it morning and night after cleansing (with the Micellar Water) and I feel like it’s helped even out my skintone and weirdly, I feel like my freckles aren’t as prominent. Though, that could be the amount of time I spend out of the sun in this cold weather. Either way, I like it. ($15 for a 3.4 oz bottle)
Pacifica Stress Rehab Coconut & Caffeine Facial Mask
I bought this totally on a whim one day and gave it a try one morning after an especially long night. (No wild parties, just a baby who didn’t want to sleep.)
My face looked…rough. Red, puffy, basically all the things you don’t want your face to look like, especially when you’re already a hormonal self conscious (sleep-deprived) new mother.
I popped this mask on and in seconds felt it working. In fact, I actually took it off a little earlier than the directions stated because I was afraid I was having an allergic reaction and would be soothing a red, burnt face.
Upon removal I was 1) pleased to see no redness, and 2) shocked at how well it had worked. My face was soft and smooth, firm without being tight, and best of all, I looked like I had slept for a full night. Not bad for $4.
I’ve never experienced such immediate results with any beauty product before and I am forever a fan. And now I want to try allll their other things.
Those are my five current skincare product recommendations, but I’d love to know if you have your own! What are you buying and loving right now?
