I really think I could eat these Cream Cheese Sausage Balls every day and die happy. It’s probably my favorite appetizer and they are delicious, so what’s not to love?!
These sausage balls have become my go-to recipe for any party with a big group and I take every chance I can to make them and share! Once you make them for yourself, you’ll see why!
Not only are these one of the easiest appetizer recipes around (only four ingredients!), they’re also the perfect thing to serve at your game day watch-party, holiday gathering, or just whenever the mood strikes! But be warned, they’ll go fast!
This is also a great make-ahead recipe that you can assemble the night before you want to bake them. You could just pop them in the oven right before the big game, a baby shower, or Christmas breakfast!
This recipe will make about two dozen sausage balls (enough to fill a small baking sheet), but you could easily make them smaller to yield more per batch! But however many sausage balls you think you need, you probably should make more. They’re just that good!
Party Favorite Cream Cheese Sausage Balls
A few tips before you get started:
- You could easily spice these sausage balls up with a dash of red pepper or by adding spicy sausage. It’s your call!
- You may want to spray your foil with cooking spray or use a non-stick foil before baking if you find your sausage balls are sticking to the pan.
- Did you run out of Bisquick baking mix? I’ve used flour before as a substitute and had really good results!
- Serve them right out of the oven or let them sit for a bit, either way they’ll be eaten right up!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb of sausage (raw)
- 1 8 oz. block of cream cheese
- 1 Cup of shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 Cup of Bisquick baking mix
1. Pre-heat oven to 375 F.
2. Take the sausage and cream cheese and add to a large mixing bowl. I like to place them in the microwave for 30 second to heat them up slightly so its not quite so cold when I mix the ingredients with my hands.
3. Add the Bisquick and cheddar cheese to the sausage and cream cheese.
4. Now it’s time to get your hands dirty and mix all the ingredients until combined in a large ball.
5. Take about 1 tablespoon size of the mixture (I really just eye ball this) and roll out into the small balls and place on a pan.
6. Cook sausage balls for 10-15 until sausage is cooked through.
7. Serve and enjoy!!!! I hope you enjoy these as much as I do! If you need some more party appetizers, we’ve got some more easy ideas!

Stupid question probably, but does anyone know an estimate of how many calories per serving??
Hi Brandy! We intentionally do not include any calorie or nutrition information (other than ingredients) on our recipes. It should be pretty easy to copy and paste the measurements and ingredients into a calorie calculator somewhere though!
Made these this morning, Wow! Loved them and so easy to make. My husband was very happy! He gets up to work much earlier that I do and having these prepared add to a good breakfast for him!
Loved the recipe and so did everyone else. First thing completely gone.
Have you ever made them with turkey sausage?
These were so good. I love sausage balls but have never made them. These arent dry like most I’ve had. Definitely making these again and again. Thanks for a great recipe!!!
The least dry sausage ball recipe out there! After the first batch, I was already thinking about all the different ways to add different flavors, be it with using seasonings or a different flavor sausage. LOVE IT!
So glad you liked them!!! Let us know what seasonings and flavors you like best!
Sausage meat has been frozen so how can you refreshes without cooking first?
That should read re freeze
These are AWESOME! They are one of those snacks that as you are making them you feel you have a lot. But once you put them out for people to eat, they go really fast. .Everybody LOVES them!!! Thanks for sharing all of the tips😁
Thank you for your sweet compliment!!! I am glad you like them!!
Can I freeze these after they are baked?
I honestly have no idea. I would assume so but I have never done that before.
If you’re asking about leftovers, I don’t know either, but if it’s regarding “getting a jump on your baking” … I’ve made them & froze them in raw formed balls. Just pop in the oven when you’re ready!
Is there any way to get some eggs in here too? You know, a one stop shop for breakfast. Growing up in the South, I’ve always loved Sausage Balls, but now with being such a busy mom, it would be great to incorporate eggs as well…making them a perfect on the go snack
I would think that would be fine but you would need to add more bisquick or flour and cook a little longer
I put a dash of red peppers in mine. But same recipe as yours. Yummy
These are ready for the oven now to enjoy while watching football today. Thank you for the great recipe!!!
thank you!!! i hope you love them!
Do you have to eat these warm, or is room temp ok? I’m traveling with mine.
I dont know the correct answer but I have ate them room temperature after they were cooked and they were great!
Has anyone added potatoes to this?
Has anyone kept these warm in a crockpot? I am wondering how they would hold up.
I think it would just depend on how long. I’ve honestly eat them at room temperature a lot and they still taste great.
I got about 40 out of one batch. I would definitely recommend greasing the tin foil before baking. Every bottom of each one stuck to the tin foil and I had to pretty much rip them off. Very frustrating!!!
I’m sorry you had that problem. I hadn’t experience that but that would be really frustrating!
Reynolds Wrap makes a non-stick foil. Just be sure the dull side is up and you’ll have no problem with sticking.
Great tip, thanks!
Thank you for the excellent tip! After 25 years of making this recipe, I laced the Reynolds wrap shiny side down…IT WORKS!
Delicious. I love these better than the ones I used to make without the cream cheese. They are more moist. They freeze well raw. Just thaw them before baking for best result. Can cook from frozen but will need to increase cook time.
I’m glad you like them! thank you for the freezing tips! I was curious about that!
I love these! I keep a tiny bowl of olive oil next to me as I roll them into balls. I just dip my fingers in every so often and spread the oil on my palms, it keeps the mixture from sticking as much! Now for the mixing, it’s gonna get stuck either way, so I skip the oil for that part. :D
great idea!!
I made these and felt they were pretty weak. I really couldn’t taste the sausage. Next time hot sausage or add some green chili’s. My dad loved them.
I’m sure that would be great too! we aren’t spicy people so that’s why I make it this way but your idea sounds great!
Can you make these the night before and throw them in the oven the next day?
yep! I’ve done that before!
Can we use any Kankakee mix or it has to be bisquick?
**Pancake
I bet you could. the pancake mix probably has a little more sugar then the bisquick. I’ve used flour before too and gotten good results!
Fresh grated cheese is much better since previously shredded at stores has flour added to keep it from sticking together.
Has anyone tried making these ahead of time and freezing them uncooked for baking later?
I keep these made up , And in my Freezer all the time ,not just during the
A coupleother tips that make leasier to prepare a better tasting Sausage Balls
1) Set Cream Cheese out to Soften
2) Use the Dough Hook on Mixer when Mixing Sausage Balls . I have Kitchen Aid but any Mixer with Dough Hook will work
3) Shred Block of Cheese Do not buy already Shredded they add wax to pre shredder Cheese that can effect way Sausage Balls turn out
3) meat Baller is the perfect Size to prepare Sausage Balls
My Family Loves Sausage Balls for Snacks and they like them as Breakfast with Egg and Biscuits or Toast
TO FREEZE SAUSAGE BALLS FLASH FREEZE THEM LAYING SINGLE ROLL IN SHEET PAN. THEN CAN ADD TO FREEZER BAG AFTER THEY FREEZE. YOU CAN TAKE OUT HOW MANY NEEDED. INCREASE COOKING TIME BY 3 TO 5 MINUTES NO NEED TO THAW. I USALLY MAKE UP ABOUT 50 TO 100 AT A TIME
Do you cook them and then freeze them or do you freeze them raw?
I haven’t tried to freeze them so I don’t have much to input there. sorry!
Any idea (roughly) how many balls this makes?
For a single batch my rough guess is around 24 but I think probably more if you make them a little smaller. A lot of time I’ll make a double batch and it makes a lot!
These sound amazing!! How many does this recipe yield?
It depends on how big or small you make the balls. I haven’t counted but for a single batch 24ish? I can fill a small cookie sheet.
Mmm, I love these things! My mom used to make them all the time…they’re the perfect appetizer!
Oh wow, I’ve never heard of sausage balls made with cream cheese, but I’m betting they are absolutely delicious!! Yum, must try soon! :)
Yum! I looooove sausage balls. I make mine almost exactly the same but I’ve never used cream cheese. It sounds heavenly! I also like to use the spicy sausage bc it adds a very small kick.
waw, that’s make me hungry now HH, and look good things :)
These look really great. Seems to make a bunch which is good. Think I could have the kids help make these.
