Julia Child once said that “People who love to eat are always the best people.” If that is true, then Jim Gaffigan is certainly among the greatest.
The stand up comedian’s new book, Food: a Love Story, is truly a love letter to food. He claims no expertise or authority, other than an appreciation of good food and a stand-up career that has taken him all around the country to sample our finest fare.
He waxes poetic in a way that only a true lover of food can do, but with such a funny sensibility that you can’t help but laugh and nod your head in agreement. However, Gaffigan does not shy away from poking fun at food fads and the absurdity of some of our favorite comfort foods. Nor does he love all food; with delightful irreverence, he questions the appeal of salads, vegetables, and other regional delicacies.
Food: a Love Story is the perfect summer read. Light and quick, sure to make you smile and all about a great summertime subject- good eats!
