Honey is obviously a fantastic food item, but also has many beauty uses! I love using honey on everything from my skin to my hair (I promise, it’s not as sticky as it sounds!) Here are a few of my favorite honey beauty recipes:
Honey Facial Scrub:
This makes your skin SO soft! IMPORTANT: Before you try this make sure your skin isn’t sensitive to cinnamon, it can irritate some people!
- 1 T. honey
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Mix your ingredients in a bowl and apply to cleansed skin. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. Make sure it’s not too thick because it will drip (and be sticky!) Rinse it well and then I usually wash my face again with a gentle cleanser.
Honey Hair Boost:
Want some extra moisture? Try adding some honey to your shampoo! I start by adding the normal amount of shampoo to my hand and before I work it into a lather I add a quarter to half-dollar size amount of honey (my hair is pretty long at the moment). You might need more or less depending on your hair length. Lather and work into hair like normal and then rinse.
Honey Hair Highlighter:
The light blonde hair I had as a child has darkened over time and I just recently started applying honey as a hair mask to try to lighten it a bit!
- 3 T. honey
- 2 T. water
That’s it! You’ve got a couple of options here. First, you can mix the honey and water in a bowl until it’s thinned out. Pour it on damp hair and comb it out to evenly distribute. Leave it for an hour and rinse. Shampoo as normal. The other option is to pour the honey into your hands and just apply to damp scalp. It will thin out as you coat your hair. Either way works!
While honey does contain an enzyme that produces peroxide, it may not be quite enough to make too much of a difference on it’s own. If you want to mix it with another conditioner or shampoo, you might see stronger results!
While I do feel like my hair has a lighter glow these days, I’m mostly sold on how well my hair is doing in general! It’s not greasy, even with going several days between washes! I haven’t even used dry shampoo in weeks! (And I used to keep a bottle of it in my purse!) I will keep doing this hair mask for sure!
